Dear Radha, I posted some info on our Architecture for Humanity New Delhi project, a school in Niamey, and would be very pleased to hear about your experience, knowledge, or opinions on the project so far (there will be more about it in a week or so!)
Above, a photo to give you an idea of what we’re working with at the moment (existing facilities). They want to more than double the size of their school.
Is great to have you on our chapter network. Apologies for the delayed response.
AFH, essentially, is a “Design non-profit” where architects donate their skills to communities that cannot afford to hire them. On a larger plane it also involves each of us taking a lead role in initiating change at an individual level in the communities where we live. AFH-New Delhi (AFHND) is a chapter of AFH-California.
Everyone at AFHND as in other chapters is a volunteer taking time out from personal schedules in order to give back to the community, a tough call given the difficult times in which we live.
Our chapter was started about nine months ago and we have a resource pool comprising members with different backgrounds from twenty seven countries.
Projects range from helping to paint a local school in a slum settlement to affordable housing. While some projects are sponsored by AFH, most times it involves placing a call for design partners on networks such as ours to bring the volunteer designer and the client together. This happened recently at AFHND when a school in Niger was connected to volunteer design partners from Denmark and US.
A unique feature of AFH is the Open Architecture Network where architects share their ideas. You can get more details at the following links:

Shall look forward to your active participation here.
