About me
Hello, its great to be here. I shall introduce my self here briefly as it would be impolite of me not to do so.
I am all those things described above. Received my degree from the Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee in India. After completing my formal education there, I worked for around thirteen years in mainstream architectural offices in India before setting out on my own. My experience covers projects in the sectors of Hospitality, Health-care, Business corporations, IT R&D complexes, Temples ( worked closely with traditional craftsmen) and Residences. I have been in the profession now for nearly thirty years.
Before setting out on my own I spent three years working with interior architect Carl Christiansson from Stockholm in Sweden as his resident architect and man-friday here in India. While with him I got to work on the design, development and prototyping of office chairs, modular demountable office systems, soft furnishings and designing of offices for a leading IT corporation. This was probably the first mass produced, truly modular and demountable office system in India. Also worked in association with scientists of IPIRI and the Rubber Board to develop specifications for the use of rubber wood in high end furniture.
Small things matter.
Explorations:
I have experimented with animation in films ( made one 10 second commercial ) in the days when the work was still done on Cels. Looked at animation as an art form.
I am the lead architectural illustrator in India for Dorling Kindersley, UK, and have illustrated buildings and heritage sites in Cambodia, United States, Costa Rica, Vietnam, Brazil, Kenya, Baltic States, Argentina, Peru, Alaska, Belgium and India. Current work includes drawings for the Romanian Parliament.
I am also a painter, currently working on urban landscapes in water colour.
I have over sixteen years experience as a primary caregiver for the elderly ( my mum and dad). For a while my career and care-giving responsibilities went in parallel. In 2003, I decided to downsize my practice to become a full time caregiver as that was the need of the moment. My parents passed away recently and my care-giving responsibilities are now over. This experience has opened my eyes to how inaccessible our cities really are and am networking with other voluntary agencies to be able to make a contribution in this field. In June 2008, along with my friend and colleague Kim Parkinson, an architect from London, I set up Architecture for Humanity-New Delhi (AfH-New Delhi) which is the first chapter of Architecture for Humanity in India. The green chapter icon was designed by Kim using one of her own photo creations.
AfH-New Delhi is a virtual network of design professionals who wish to donate their services to communities in need.

World Challenge 09-Vote now for India's Barefoot solar engineers!

“They come as women, and they go back as tigers – they are so confident – oozing with confidence” Bunker Roy, Barefoot College

It’s hard to imagine that in parts of Africa south of the Sahara as little as 2% of the villages have access to electricity – that means no TVs, no microwaves, no fridges, and no electric light at night. Now the Barefoot College in India is training a small cadre of women to install solar panels in areas far away from any electricity grid. And Bunker Roy,… Continue

Architecture for Humanity is hiring!!

Hi all,
The economy is still really tough. Many people are still uttering the word 'layoff' we are shouting at the top of our voices 'let's hire'. We cannot stress this enough. If you don't apply, you won't get the job. This is the moment to take a tour of duty to help improve the lives of a community and remind yourself why you became a designer in the first place. Now is the time to give a damn. X10

Terrific Green Tool: Precautionary List From Perkins+Will

list-top.jpg Architects usually keep their proprietary research locked up and closely held. Perkins + Will has done the opposite and made it a public service. Launched at Greenbuild the Precautionary List is a compilation of available data on chemicals and materials that may well become "a catalyst for marketplace change". Jetson Green quotes P+W's Robin Gunther: "Amazingly, it's hard to fathom that as architects we don't always know what (chemicals) are in the building materials we use. It's time for this to change; time to bring a standard for care to building design and construction by s... Read the full story on TreeHugger

Help Wanted: Extreme Green Consultant to Help TreeHugger Founder Renovate 420-square-foot Apartment in NYC

new york green apartment renovation photo Dear Readers, Buildings comprise 40% or more of our emissions in the U.S., so I'm trying to create a personal living situation for myself that might be a model for how more of us could live in the future (at least in cities like New York). I'm gunning to design a tiny, ultra-green-yet-sleek (almost luxurious in parts), extremely functional, financially smart ap... Read the full story on TreeHugger
