Gautam Trivedi T World Challenge 09-Vote now for India's Barefoot solar engineers!

“They come as women, and they go back as tigers – they are so confident – oozing with confidence” Bunker Roy, Barefoot College It’s hard to imagine that in parts of Africa south of the Sahara as little as 2% of the villages have access to electricity – that means no TVs, no microwaves, no fridges, and no electric light at night. Now the Barefoot College in India is training a small cadre of women to install solar panels in areas far away from any electricity grid. And Bunker Roy,… Continue

Michael McKenzie Time to Disappear...

Like a seasonal alarm clock...the static buzz of Cicada in their mating serenade, somewhere out there in the trees beyond my open city window...remind me that the 'dog days of August' are here...and its time to disappear. As we say in Ontario, "I'm goin up north". To the land of Algonquin on the edge of the Precambrian...where 3 billion years ago, continents collided with such force that mountains melted and mile high glaziers gouged and shaped the rivers, valleys and lakes we now enjoy... Where… Continue

Yesterday, as our leader Cameron Sinclair and Team headed to the White House for the 10th Annual National Design Awards and lunch with Mrs. Obama it was clear that this once tiny NGO had achieved a level of recog… Continue

anand tiwari Benefits of Double Glazed Units

Glass is a good insulator but it would need to be very thick as a single pane in a window to have much effect. These two glasses are held apart by a 'spacer bar'. There is an air gap in between each glass which is sealed around the perimeter. Glass is a good conductor of heat. So, just a single glazed or single pane window will not insulate… Continue
